Why Austin Homeowners Are Tired of “$99 Duct Cleaning” Scams
If you’ve been on Reddit, Google Reviews, or neighborhood groups in Austin, you’ve seen stories just like these:
- “They came for a $99 duct cleaning and tried to upsell me $4,000 in repairs.”
- “They said they found mold — and wouldn’t clean unless I paid thousands more.”
- “They refused to identify themselves and pushed a deep cleaning I didn’t need.”
These bait-and-switch tactics are rampant in the duct-cleaning industry. Companies use too-good-to-be-true specials to get inside your home, then rely on pressure tactics, mold scares, and “health hazard” warnings to push upgrades you never asked for.
At K&M Steam Cleaning, we don’t operate like that.
We’re a locally owned Austin business with 30+ years of proven service.
No coupons that lead to upsells.
No scare tactics.
No made-up mold problems.
Just honest air duct cleaning done the right way.
Honest Air Duct Cleaning in Austin: How You Know You’re Not Being Scammed
Here’s what honest, professional duct cleaning looks like — and exactly what K&M does on every job.
1. Transparent, upfront pricing — no games.
K&M gives you the price before we start.
No mysterious “inspection fees.”
No sudden “mold treatment surcharge.”
No “deep cleaning upgrades.”
If the price changes, you’ll know why — and you’ll see it with your own eyes.
2. No mold scares. Ever.
A common scam is telling homeowners they “found mold” and refusing to clean unless you buy a $1,000+ add-on.
At K&M:
- We show you photos and video of what’s inside your ducts.
- We explain the difference between dust, debris, and actual mold.
- We offer optional sanitizing/disinfecting — never mandatory.
3. Real equipment. Real techs. Real results.
Honest companies invest in:
- Professional, van-mounted vacuums
- Rotating scrubber heads
- Experienced technicians (many with K&M for over a decade)
- Before-and-after verification
Scam companies typically bring a Shop-Vac and a “fogger.”
4. You see exactly what we removed.
Every K&M duct cleaning ends with a walkthrough:
- Dust
- Pet dander
- Construction debris
- Allergens
- (If present) biological contaminants
You get complete transparency — because that’s what honest service looks like.
