How often should Saltillo tile be professionally cleaned and resealed?

Most Saltillo tile floors need professional cleaning and resealing every 2–3 years, depending on the amount of foot traffic and exposure to dirt, spills, and moisture.

Can Saltillo tile be polished to a high gloss finish?

Yes. By applying the right type of topical sealer, Saltillo tile can have a beautiful glossy finish. The finish level—matte, satin, or high gloss—can be customized based on your preference.

Why is a topical sealant applied to Saltillo tile?

Saltillo tile is a highly porous tile. If it is not coated with a topical sealer, normal foot traffic can cause noticeable wear and the tile will absorb anything spilled onto it.

What happens if Saltillo tile is not sealed?

Unsealed Saltillo tile is extremely vulnerable to staining, etching, and surface damage. Everyday spills and normal use can leave permanent marks if the tile is left unsealed.

Can I use store-bought cleaners on Saltillo tile?

It is not recommended. Many store-bought cleaners are acidic or abrasive, which can dull or damage the sealer and the soft tile surface. K&M uses pH-balanced cleaners specifically formulated for Saltillo.

Why does Saltillo tile need to be stripped and re-coated?

Over time, topical sealants applied to Saltillo tile will wear and look foggy in high-traffic areas. When this happens, the topical sealers will need to be removed with a high-alkaline stripper. After the dull, worn-out sealant coat is removed, a new topical coating is applied to make the Saltillo floors look good for years to come.
