Leander’s growing small-business community is getting a new place to gather, unplug and play.
Wren’s Landing, a neighborhood board game cafe and bar, is preparing to open at 1561 Hero Way, Suite 120. The locally owned concept will combine tabletop games with beer, wine, nonalcoholic drinks and light food in a comfortable space designed for casual visits, group gatherings and community events.
A New Kind of Gathering Place in Leander
Wren’s Landing is the creation of Leander residents Charles and Mindy Carlson. Its name was inspired by Wren’s Cafe, where the couple had their first date in 1996.
The Carlsons envision a place where friends and families can step away from their screens, select a game and spend meaningful time together. The cafe is intended to welcome everyone from first-time players to experienced tabletop strategists.
Visitors will be able to stop by for a quick drink and light party game, settle in for a longer gaming session or participate in hosted events.
Construction Underway on Hero Way
The 2,984-square-foot space is receiving an interior finish-out that will include a bar, restrooms, custom millwork, lighting and new finishes. Plans call for beer and wine service and packaged food, but no commercial kitchen.
According to a state project filing, the privately funded renovation is valued at approximately $399,000. Construction is scheduled for completion in December 2026, although project timelines can change.
Once open, Wren’s Landing will add another locally rooted entertainment option to the rapidly developing Hero Way corridor.
